Google Chrome 82 tests a picture-in-picture button in the media control center

Google recently added a new media control tool in Google Chrome for desktops. The tool includes support for Chromecast and allows you to control casted content from the browser with just a click. Now, it seems like Google is prepping up to add a picture-in-picture (PiP) button in the media control center on Chrome, which will allow you to watch videos in a PiP window. The tool was discovered by XDA Senior Member Some_Random_Username in Google Chrome Canary v82.0.4075 running on Windows 10 and he didn’t have to enable any feature flags in order to access the feature.

Chrome 82 PiP button

As you can see in the video below, the new PiP button appears right next to the playback controls in the media control center. Clicking on the button opens instantly opens up the video you’re playing in a PiP window in the bottom right corner of the browser. Our Editor-in-Chief, Mishaal Rahman, also tried out the latest version of Chrome Canary and was able to see the new button in the media control center. The PiP button is a great addition to the media control center and it allows you to easily switch tabs while watching a video and not worry about missing any part of it.

As of now, we have no official information from Google regarding the new PiP button or its release timeline. However, since the feature is available in Chrome Canary v82.0.4075, it’s safe to assume that Google might release it in the upcoming Chrome 82 update. The Chrome 82 update is scheduled to hit the stable channel in April 2020, so it shouldn’t be long before you’re able to use the feature on your system.

Thanks to XDA Senior Member Some_Random_Username for the screenshot and video!
